I find that this concept can be puzzling and applies at both the micro and macro levels (small vs big groups…short vs long lapses in time)…as individuals, companies, countries, societies, and perhaps species (including humanity). It also applies horizontally to the simple balancing of things like promoting innovation/creativity vs following what history shows are proven best practices. Or maybe you think of energetic and confident youth vs experienced wisdom. You can even take it further, like most thought experiments, and get into science vs history and where this fits into God and the meaning of life. Meditate on it and enjoy. And Happy Independence Day!
